Their main objective is to market these homes to that segment of the population who see the value in the architecture. Susan has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Dwell Magazine, Modernism Magazine, Cincinnati Magazine and the Cincinnati Enquirer. She has also appeared on HGTV Pro and HGTV's 'What You Get For the Money.' In 2008 she co-authored the book '50 from the 50's: Midcentury Architecture and Interiors in Cincinnati.' Arlen has 15 years of experience in the mortgage industry, 25 years sales experience, and is an experienced remodeler of midcentury homes.

They were cool to spread the word about the F Holes, who are a local Cincinnati musical group. Apparently, Tim, of the F Holes wrote a song about Charley called "Charley's Cardinal". Tres cool! We would like to hear this!

And for those visiting or even living in Cincinnati, check Space513, a fantastic interactive website of places and things to see and do in the Queen City. Each 'bomb' contains a "wildflower seed mixture, which includes Queen Anne’s Lace, Pot Marigold, Cornflower, Godetia, Farewell-to-Spring, Plains Coreopsis, Sulphur Cosmos, Wild Cosmos, Chinese Forget-Me-Not, Wild Larkspur, California Poppy, Indian Blanket, Globe Gilia, Baby’s Breath, Wild Annual Sunflower, Rose Mallow, Baby Snapdragon, Scarlet Flax, Annual Lupine, Four O’Clock, Baby Blue Eyes, Red Poppy, and None-so-Pretty." You can pick up a hand screened pack of five seed bombs at Outside in downtown Cincinnati, Contemporary Arts Center gift shop downtown, MiCA 12/v and Park+Vine in Over-the-Rhine, MiCA in O’Bryonville, NVISION in the funky Northside, and now Anthropologie. Or you can order them online straight from Visual Lingual themselves.

We might be picking up some of these to throw into the forest here at the studio!

Spring Cleaning

Mopping the floors. Preparing for shows. Eating chocolate bars. Finishing the new catalog. Life is grand. Its still early enough in the afternoon that the owl hasn't started it hooting. Almost like clockwork, "HOOT HOOT HOOT" every afternoon at four. Thinking about getting rid of the clock and just going by owl time.

Do we have any folk music fans reading? Well, regardless, we'd like to recommend Nora, Ben, and Eli for some enjoyable springtime listening. Its sort of Celtic / Appalachian folk blend. Actually, they do English, Irish, Welsh, Appalchian, and even French folk/country tunes. We have their cd, Neotradition, and its a good one. Hard to believe they are still in high school and so talented. The trio live just down the way from here in Louisville, KY and have been getting a lot of attention locally.

Birch Bark and Braden

We had a happy surprise this weekend while perusing the March 2010 issue of Computer Arts magazine. On page 17 there is an article on Minneapolis design studio, Imagehaus. Well, on page 17, at the bottom, is a photo of Braden Wise's inspiration board. Although Charley was against computers, the Charley Harper Art Studio does realize the value of them to help support and maintain business. This brave new medium is a tool, just like the french curve and protractor commonly used to create so many of the popular Harper designs.
Unfortunately, when it rains, it pours. And it poured technological mayhem on us this week. Its a good thing there are some really good people who care about our digital issues out there. We just want to send a big thank you to All About Computers Plus, at 907 West North Bend Rd, here in Finneytown, OH, for all their great work. We love how they always tell us the problem, the issues, and the fixes without trying to force us to buy or upgrade anything that doesn't need be. Rae always takes computer issues so emotionally and personally when dealing with us. We like that sort of honesty. Wouldn't the world be a happier place if there was a bit more of that out there? And Devin and Eric, the tech guys, are as good as it comes for working on PC's and not blowing smoke about why the computers may not be working. Another quality we appreciate about people.

Thanks All About Computers Plus!!!

ps. they do custom builds and mods, too.

Spring Has Sprung

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; It is truly a great little Greek deli. Delicious gyro, greek yogurt, homemade desserts, bulk dry goods, herbs and spices, Greek wine, olive oil, olives, good prices, tables to sit in and relax.... we could go on and on. As we sit here in the studio and bliss out after having a delicious lunch of olives, dolmas, and gyros, we wonder why there isn't hardly any web presence for them. Where's the webpage or blog with a list of wines, a menu, etc? And when will there be mousaka?! If you are a frequent City Beat reader, you may have seen pics and write-ups, though. We can't wait til they have an on-license so we can go sit there, listen to traditional Greek and Cretian music, have a glass of wine and gnosh on olives and end with a piece of baklava. Does it get much better?

If you're looking for it in Finneytown, its next door to Hong Kong Kim's Kwon Do studio,in the strip right next to the CVS on Winton across from the Applebees. Don't go to Applebee's. Go to Athena.

Spring Sneakers and Gnus

News, news and more gnus.

Snow is melting and green grass is showing. All the fat little gray squirrels are outside the studio door rooting around rather than trying to get into the birdfeeders. We do. For those that don't know, "Atomic Ranch celebrates midcentury houses—from 1940s ranch tracts to 1960s architect-designed modernist homes. With an emphasis on affordable solutions and homeowner renovations... quarterly magazine shows you how to make your house cool, both inside and out." As a matter of fact, the Charley Harper Art Studio is located in a midcentury custom built ranch home. The spring edition features Charley and the studio's work. Karen Bartos, of Farmington Hills, Michigan, provides a nice right up of how they decorated she and her husband's ranch home with Harper art. Then on pg. 38 the Charley Harper Art Studio is featured under "Cool Stuff"! Right next to the Star Trek fans and fly-away winged overhead lamps. Thanks for the love Atomic Ranch, and nice design layout!

We at the Harper studio, would like to take a minute to say thank you to Treglown Designs. When Edie passed, they sent us a box of sugar cookies made to look like Harper ladybugs and cardinals! We finally broke down today and broke into them. It must be the nice weather that inspired it. They were YUM!

Last week was Cincinnati's Modernism show, 20th Century Cincinnati. Friday night found us downtown attempting to go to long-time Charley Harper Art Studio supporter, the Contemporary Art Center, for the Shepard Fairey opening. The thing is, as we get older, we don't quite find ourselves needing to make "the scene" and not to mention, it takes a bit longer to get out the door. By the time we got to downtown Cincinnati there was a line all the way around the block. So, rather than stand around in the chill, we walked up the street and enjoyed a steamed bagel sandwich at Gilpins Bagel & Deli. Excellent sandwich, mediocre service. Never made it into the CAC. It looked like fun. Lots of young people dancing and enjoying the time. Most of our readers are probably familiar with Fairey's Obama poster with the words "HOPE". Well, this young whippersnapper has been making all sorts of artwork for quite sometime borrowing from Russian Constructivism and the visage on the late great pro-wrestler, Andre the Giant. "Andre the Giant Has a Posse". You can see some of his latest graphic mural work adorning select walls throughout Cincinnati, currently. Our only real criticism - put them up higher so the younger kids have room to practice on a blank wall instead of a on top a nice mural. That's all.
We finished that evening off listening to delightful young musical group from Columbus called Saint Seneca. Not sure what to call the sound, some of it was overly dramatic coffee-house angst, but most of it was upbeat, driven acoustic spiritualistic folk. Kudos to the young folks over at the Bike Haus for allowing opening us up to good energy.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 126px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/S4LsqahB0uI/AAAAAAAAAG0/bDaqZypKEqs/s200/20thcincy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441171513233494754" />Now its Monday, and we have the upcoming 15th Annual 20th Century Cincinnati show this weekend that we are preparing for as well as our show at Castor and Pollux in Brighton, UK.
"20th Century Cincinnati is the Queen City's annual retrospective of the forward looking design trends introduced between the First World War and the Computer Age. Quiet evolutions and clamorous revolutions in the arts, architecture, furnishings, decor and fashion worlds..... Art Deco, Streamline, Futuristic, Mid-Century Modern and Op/Pop.....the century's classic forms - many from the century's signature designers - all will fill the floor when 20th Century Cincinnati returns to the Sharonville Convention Center on the weekend of February 27-28, 2010." We think she does fabulous stuff over there at Push Me Pull You Design. We think her Keds shoes are perfect for wearing around our own studio. 7 and a half, Eleanor!! Just kidding. What about men's? She's got great slip-ons for wearing around the house. Size 10, also, Eleanor! We recommend taking the time to peruse her portfolio gallery and the about section of her website. She'll be speaking at How Design Conference 2010 in Denver, CO. Maybe we'll see you there. <img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 90px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/S3R43AK-9XI/AAAAAAAAAGk/qCpsSb8NU5g/s200/keds.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437103536477238642" />Ps. Thank you, Eleanor, for your kind words about Edie. It means a lot.

We did promise you a bit about the Ladybug Coalition. Back in 1996 Ranger Rick magazine ran a great piece on Charley and his ladybug artwork. Those little red critturs were a personal favorite of his. "Enchanted", as he put it. So much so, that it became the Harper family symbol! Want to know more? Stay tuned!

Excitement!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 250px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/S3IdOEwnO9I/AAAAAAAAAGU/X2yZ-F3O4lY/s200/He_s+the+%27bomb.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436439827822623698" />
Bored? Could it get much better? Almost everything was closed down today after Cincinnati received a few inches of wintry blanketing. Almost. The Charley Harper Art Studio was active. Brett was snowed in, but Rena was able to plow through to make sure the cat's were ok and ongoing business was not falling behind. What a trooper! Next time you see her, tell her how much you appreciate all the hard work she puts in to make sure the Harper legacy is sprinkled upon the world like the soft downy feathers falling from the breast of a great horned owl hunting mice.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 151px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/S3ILQvLGq0I/AAAAAAAAAGM/tDZ9LHQ0bNs/s200/snowy+owl.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436420082358463298" />What started as big fluffy flakes are now fine crystals blown about by a Jack Frost gale. Wonderful weather to curl up in a warm nest rather than trying to forage beneath the firs for nuts and seeds. Or in the case of all the wildlife around the studio, taking turns at the fully stocked feeders. Its a great day for going out and identifying and following animal tracks. A great place to go find out about backyard wildlife and how to help them through these months would be Wild Bird Centers of America. There are flowers poking up out of the bed of leaves on the ground and we're looking at a possible snow storm tomorrow. So close to spring, maybe winter will go out with a bang. Funny how we like to talk about the weather when we're not sure what to say. The loss of Edie is still running deep here. Pushing forward and putting the studio's energy to new products and business is helping. Little things make a difference, too. All the support and condolenses, chocolate, and believe or not, a good gyro.
We went up to Athena Foods on Winton Rd yesterday, after hearing that they now made gyros and WOW!! Just the smells alone were like walking into a little slice of paradise. And the meat - great flavor and not greasy. Little things... little things. ITs always nice to go someplace and talk with someone who has a true love of food.

The studio's new product line from Pomegranite Communications will be online at charleyharperartstudio.com after Monday. Pomegranite's design team seemed to have a lot of fun coming up with the new stuff. Check out the Darwin's Finches invitation cards and the Limp on a Limb journal notebook. There also seems to be a leaning towards a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle series based on the National Parks posters Charley produced. Glacier Bay and the Rocky Mountains will be available next week on our site. A dreamy child, she moved with her parents to Liberty, Missouri, when her father chose to open a short-order restaurant. On trips to see relatives on their farms and small ranches in the Sand Hills of Nebraska, she developed a lifelong love for animals and the vast, lonely expanses of the Middle West.

The family moved again, to Cincinnati, in the 1930s when Edie’s father landed a position with Procter & Gamble. They lived in an apartment on Springfield Pike while Edie attended Wyoming High School (graduating in 1939), all the while creating art at a level beyond her actual years. The desire for formal art training burned in her heart. So in 1940 the respected Art Academy of Cincinnati welcomed Edie as one of its most eager new admissions.

On the first day of the program, on the steps of the administration building, Edie met an equally earnest young man from West Virginia, Charley Harper. In classes and conversations, she learned that he shared her admiration of painters such as Miro and Klee. They studied printmaking with the Stampers and were fortunate enough to spend a semester with legendary Josef Albers, visiting to teach his Color Theory course. For several years afterwards Albers sent Edie his hand-screened Christmas cards.

When Charley was drafted for service in World War II, Edie interrupted her classes to aid the war effort in a civilian capacity. She photographed hydro dams and cement test samples and processed the film in the lab for the Corps of Engineers. Later, she would receive critical acclaim for the black and white photographs she took with her 8 x 10 camera employing her own imaginative subject matter. This resulted in an exhibition at the Cincinnati Contemporary Art Center.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 140px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/S19rvdTNtyI/AAAAAAAAAF8/ElLEwFp-03Y/s200/charley+crooked+tie.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5431178138695350050" />Soon after the war, Edie and Charley resumed their studies at the Academy. Following graduation in 1947, they embarked on a six-month camping honeymoon throughout America. Edie kept an illustrated journal. Every day they sketched and painted, occasionally the same natural setting, and compared the results.

Upon their return from the honeymoon, Edie and Charley maintained separate studios in the basement of Edie’s parents’ home in Roselawn. The young couple helped care for Edie’s father, who had multiple sclerosis, and were able to save Charley’s earnings from his day job at Schaten Studio. In 1953 Edie gave birth to their son, Brett, named after California photographer Brett Weston. Throughout the 1950s Edie continued painting, supplemented by a rich output of jewelry, contemporary photography, enameling, sculpture, and silkscreen prints.

In the 1960s Edie added weaving to the roster of media she had mastered. During this decade she converted to acrylic paint and completed a series of grid-centric images. Toward the end of the 1960s, Edie returned to explore an early, just-hinted-at interest in the design possibilities provided by stories from the Bible.

Thompson Hall Jordan Funeral Home will be handling details.

Reverend Sharon K. As you go down the streets you see so many houses lit with a multitude of colored lights. Its as if we live in a gingerbread city. There was even gorgeous dusting of snow over everything yesterday morning. This, of course, isn't much compared to other parts of the US right now, but it was really nice.

If you find yourself in the Cincinnati area for the holidays take the time to drive around at night. Galbraith Road is especially fantastic. As is the Cincinnati Zoo's Festival of Lights. Fountain Square, in the heart of downtown has outdoor ice skating underneath a gigantic holiday tree. If you get down by there early enough, walk over to 139 E. 4th St. for the 64th Annual Holiday Train Display. Because this is such a train town, you can go look at more holiday train displays at the Behringer-Crawford Museum, in Devou Park, just over the river in Kentucky, or take a quick drive up to the neighborhood of St. Bernard's Municipal Center to see the Queen City Hi-Railers display a 3-rail O-gauge modular railroad; and if you just haven't had enough Christmas trains, then head over to the Cincinnati Museum Center and visit Holiday Junction.

If you're interested in shopping, there is plenty of that in the area, too. In fact, head over to the Cincinnati Nature Center this weekend for the opening of the Charley Harper Art Show. Opening Reception runs from 1pm to 3pm, Saturday, December 12th. The show runs from Dec. 9-31, 2009, 10am - 5pm. Prints, posters, silkscreens, and more will be available for purchase. Or just go directly to charleyharperartstudio.com and order online.

Holidaze

Wow, the elves are working overtime here. Last time the studio posted anything it was still nice and warm and sunny. Where is our Indian Summer? Its chilly and damp here back in the trees surrounding us. Luckily things are so busy it keeps us moving and we don't get much of a chance to get cold. Even Rena, and she's always cold! There's lots to talk about, so let's start with upcoming events.

This weekend Brett Harper will be on-hand to sign copies of the new $49.95 hardcover edition of Todd Oldham's Charley Harper - An Illustrated Life at Books By The Banks this Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Duke Energy Center in downtown Cincinnati, OH. Its a free book festival with lots of activities for all ages as well as lots of new books to peruse, and of course, come get your signed edition of the new Charley Harper book!

Look out for the month of November!

Nov. 6 - 8th, the Charley Harper Art Studio will be featured at the 20th Annual Modernism Show in Winnetka, IL.

Nov 11 - 15th, Hamilton County Park District will be hosting Art in the Parks. Fabulous Frames & Art joins Nature’s Niche Stores in presenting the art of the Harper Family. A wide assortment of uniquely framed and unframed prints will be available to purchase in Ellenwood Nature Barn at Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve.
Nature’s Niche will have a new brass adornment and glass ornament with Charley Harper’s American Goldfinch. Charley Harper designs can also be found in four styles of 2010 calendars, boxed holiday cards, note cards, memory games, jigsaw puzzles, peg and floor puzzles, wrapping paper, counted cross stitch charts, board books for children, jewelry, mugs and other assorted items. Brett Harper will make personal appearances on Saturday and Sunday during show hours. Show hours are Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 11, 13, 14 and 15, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday, November 12, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Nov. 12 - 15th, the studio will be at the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival, in Harlingen, TX.

Nov. 20 - 22nd, we'll be at Glen Helen, in Yellow Springs, OH

Nov. 28th, look for us at Aullwood Audubon Center, in Dayton, OH

And that's just November. There are more shows in December and January. In fact, we're flying south for that winter month and will be in Miami and Palm Springs exhibiting during Cincinnati's colder moments.

Don't think that shows are the only things keeping us from updating this blog as often as we'd like. There is a new catalog being prepared for print. There are new wall murals in the works. Mug designs...and so much more.

Check out the handpainted Charley Harper needlepoint canvases that are currently available through The Purl Bee.

The studio would like to extend a special thank you to Sue and Bill from Wild Birds Unlimited, in Albuquerque, NM, for taking the time to stop in and say hello while they were visiting Ohio. They're big fans of the Harper family's artworks and when you're in Albuquerque, stop by and say hello to them! Tell 'em we sent you!

As promised, here's another title from the vast reference library here at Charley Harper Art Studios. The Sibley Guide to Birds written and illustrated by David Allen Sibley. Talk about a book full of marked pages!! One can tell this National Audubon Society book was a valuable reference for Mr. Harper.

A quick bit of trivia... did you know that Charley Harper's studio used to be his carport? That's right. He had the son of the gentleman that built the house convert the open-air carport into a fully functional enclosed studio!

And finally, please remember, when you're out as goblins and ghouls running amuck for treats, stay out of caves. The bats that live there are hibernating and nobody likes to be woken up from a deep slumber.

If we don't post again before Halloween, carve us up a good pumpkin, leave us out something tasty for the trick-r-treatin' and put on a good scary costume to frighten off bad spirits and we'll see you next time!!

Whew!! Jill had the top of her new prosthesis covered in Charley Harper birds. We had been hearing about this for a couple of months and were glad to have her visit the studio to show it off. Jill said the last thing she would see before surgeries on her leg at Cincinnati Children's Hospital were Charley Harper's bird's that decorated the hospital walls. Wow. Thanks for sharing that with us Jilly! Be sure to say hi to her at some of the bird shows around the country.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 119px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/SrqHcoif6WI/AAAAAAAAAEQ/RNpnPJTEf9M/s200/20_SF20.FINAL.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5384765230463052130" />OK, time to get back to work and prep for being at SF20, San Francisco's 20th Century Modernism Show and Sale this weekend!

Another Show this weekend!!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 234px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/SrJxHRnEmZI/AAAAAAAAADo/CHfr8q611Qs/s320/MBS2009.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382488874461469074" />
Not only are we showing original Charley Harper works in San Francisco's SF20 next weekend, we will also be at the Midwest Bird Symposium, in Lakeside, OH this weekend! We know a bunch of you are bigtime bird watchers, so hopefully you'll stop by the Charley Harper Art Studio booth and say hi to Rena. Be nice to her, please. She makes good things happen here at the studio.
The Symposium runs from September 17th thru the 20th. That's means you shouldn't be reading this!! You should be in Lakeside, OH!!

There are more shows coming up in November and things are hopping here in Cincinnati.
It was even a little bit brisk this morning. Time for your fall gardens. Garlic, cabbage, onions.... bird migrations will be soon. The owl was hooting at us in the middle of the day. Really. he just hangs out around here. That has to be good luck.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 232px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/SrJ5ODoBL7I/AAAAAAAAAD4/eJmI-8VT_go/s320/bio_volcano_sm.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382497787059449778" />Also, check out Jim Hughes great blog piece on Charley Harper and his works in The Golden Book of Biology. Check out the volcano!! Wouldn't that look sweet on your wall? Splashes of volcanic paint smoke blotch blasted in to a glass palette sky. Oily fire fire seperating from a grey liquid crystal smoke billowing in a flow like ice against the black of night's window.. Its not yet for sale, but wouldn't it make a really great print? Apparently, Shag is a big fan of Charley's, and owns almost all of Charley's fish imagery!! Thank you all very much. And a special hello to the dog that made off with poor Sandy's breakfast while she was trying to get some work done. Bad dog! Give it a read and leave a comment!

The studio would like to thank Ms. Sharon Phelps for stopping by and showing us her original quilted rendition of "Twoowls". We've had a good number of people ask if quilt patterns of Charley's works are available. The answer to that is the Charley Harper estate does not have licensed quilt patterns available. We encourage you to make your own and share them with each other and us! Send us pictures of your Charley Harper creations! Ms. Phelps says that she would gladly share her own pattern with anyone that is interested. please contact the studio and we will put you in touch with her.<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/Sp__hFA6HvI/AAAAAAAAACw/ljI5LOgSE5s/s200/quilt_Twoowls_SharonPhelps.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377297423850413810" />

As we encourage you to create your own quilt patterns, Charley Harper cross stitch patterns are available from Pat Rogers' Counted Collection. Charley Harper needlepoint patterns are available from Treglown Designs. Please purchase from these retailers or create your own. There are bootleg versions out there. Even if they are of decent quality, none of the sales of such go to the support of the Charley Harper family and estate.

Now some quick trivia!! Did you know that it was the Ford Times' Art Director, Arthur Lougee, that got Charley to start painting birds?

In an effort to share some behind the scenes of the Charley Harper Art Studio, let's take a moment out of each blog to list a title from the vast reference library here. Today's title is Water, Prey, and Game Birds of North America. This is a National Geographic Society book by Alexander Wetmore loaded with many full color photos and drawings. If you saw the copy here, you would realize what a valuable resource this was and how much it used!

New Print Available!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 178px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_WVFnlney4Fg/Sp_2oou1WII/AAAAAAAAACo/zjudy3TQZu8/s200/Tree-of-Life.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5377287658092714114" />
Hello world!! These lost paintings include many of Charley's beloved bird series among many other beautiful works. No one knew the whereabouts of any of the bird or fish originals for Charley's Ford times silkscreen prints. In many instance no one knew that original paintings of some of these were ever made! The discovery of these paintings came as a surprise even to Charley's son Brett. "I felt like I was opening a buried treasure chest that had been locked up for more than 35 years."

The Estate and Studio have already respectfully declined several immediate offers for portions of the priceless collection. Brett believes that as the market begins to understand what the collage originals of birds, fish, and travel series represent—the rarest of the rare—collectors will be stunned.

Brett will be on hand to personally introduce this new collection at an opening at Fabulous Frames and Art, one of our longest standing retailers, from 11 am-5 pm Saturday, July 11th. This local show will run from July 11th through August 8th. From there we hope the collection will continue to travel the country in a series of exhibitions in various cities yet to be determined.

For more information on the collection, contact the studio at 513-522-0545 or by e-mail at CharleyHarperArtStudio@gmail.com.

<img style="margin: 0pt 0px 20px 20pt;
